Saint Martin is the smallest land mass in the world shared by two countries:
France and Netherlands. The French side covers 20.5 sq. miles and has
a population of 36,000 and the Dutch side covers 16.5 sq. miles with a
population of 41,000. The two sides are very different. Whilst the Dutch has
lost its Dutch influence with the development of large hotel resorts, casinos
and night clubs, the French side has maintained its charm and reputation
with its top class gourmet restaurants.
Along with the excellent French cuisine, the island continues to attract
tourist with its 37 stunning beaches and Pic Paridis (424m) which offers
good hiking opportunities and beautiful views.
