Martinique
Martinique is located in the Eastern Caribbean between St
Lucia and Dominica. The island is a department of France
and therefore part of the European Union. When you visit
Martinique you will instantly experience the French
influence
with many Paris fashions, boulangeries and museums.
Martinique has a population of 380,000 and is 64 km long
and 22 km wide. The south is home to some of the best
beaches in the Caribbean which offers excellent swimming,
snorkelling and sailing. The north is mountainous with lush
tropical rainforest and impressive coastlines which makes
it a perfect location for hiking.
The capital Fort-de-France is a cosmopolitan city which
has a pretty harbour with the Pitons du Carbet mountains
behind. The capital city has as many similarities to Paris as it does to the Caribbean with cafés, designer boutiques and narrow bustling streets. The city's 19th century Schoelcher Library is a Byzantic building, built in Paris, dismantled and shipped to Martinique, where the whole building was re-assembled.
Martinique offers you everything for a perfect holiday in the Caribbean, with a selection of luxury and colonial style hotels, where you'll experience the real meaning of tranquillity. The food on the island is also exceptional with a mix of fine French cuisine and magical Creole dishes.
